The Facts: Alberta's declining share
Back in the early 1970s, Alberta’s Social Credit government managed to get 15 per cent of the total market value of the province’s oil, gas and oil sands resources.
Under Progressive Conservative Premier Peter Lougheed, the province’s share of our energy resources rose to 40 per cent.
Recently, under Premier Stelmach’s watch, our share is lower than it was in the early 1970s. In 2009, the government collected only 10 per cent of the total value of our oil, gas and oil and resources. That means untold billions of dollars are slipping through the government’s fingers.
