Read Letter - Please invest in public services
By William Henry
Written Jan. 15, 2010
A letter written to Mr. Fred Horne, Edmonton-Rutherford
I am writing to you because I am deeply concerned about the need to cut $2billion from the 2010/11 provincial budget. Our social infrastructure and public services are already stretched to the max and still recovering from the cuts of the 1990s. Another round of cuts will weaken our society, make our businesses less profitable, and put our economy in stagnation. I am especially troubled by cuts to long-term care and closure of beds at the Alberta Hospital. I know you are playing a role in the implementation of the AH bed closures, and I want you to know that if those beds close, and more long-term care facilities are converted to assisted living, or if services are delisted from medicare or classroom sizes increase, we will not be voting for you or your government. We want a compassionate society, and I implore you to work towards that.
