Read Letter - I cannot support cuts to Education!
By Vincella Thompson
Written Jan. 21, 2010
A letter written to Mr. Guy Boutilier, Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo
Dear Guy: As a faculty member and President of the Keyano College Faculty Association, I want to voice my dismay and outrage at the intent of the Alberta government to impose cuts to education which will affect everyone from students , faculty and our support staff. We have gone down this road before and the scars from the last round are still visible on many Albertans who endured these measures during the 1990s. We cannot and will not tolerate government mismanagement of funds that has brought us to this place. We are often told that these measures are temporary but when the economy improves we never get back to the pre-cut levels of funding. How can our students compete on the Canadian and global stage if they are undereducated! How is it possible to go from a place of surplus to one of poverty overnight! Please don't allow this government to rob us of hope and any future prospects of prosperity for us and our children. Please speak up for us, a resounding NO, to proposed cuts in education! Thank you, Vincella Thompson,PhD.
