Read Letter - Say No to the cuts!
By Lyndsey Smyth
Written Feb. 04, 2010
A letter written to Hon. Gene Zwozdesky, Edmonton-Mill Creek
I am a teacher with Edmonton Public School and I would like to express my concern about the potential cuts to education. I teach Special Education and see first hand how well our education dollars are used in the classroom. I am very blessed with a small class (15 students) and a full time educational assistant. My students require one on one support from adults in order to learn best. They are all coded as having a learning disability and without my aid I would not be able to reach them all. If I lose my aid, my students will suffer. If our school loses a teacher due to the cuts, it would be a tragedy. Our school is small but we committed to providing our students with the best education possible. Alberta is still in much better financial shape than almost any other jurisdiction in North America. Why would we start to cut money from what matters most? Our education! Cuts to education will be devastating and should NOT happen. I implore you to say NO to cuts to public services.
