Read Letter - STOP THE CUTS TO PUBLIC SERVICES!!!
By Caroline Maloney
Written Feb. 14, 2010
A letter written to Hon. Jack Hayden, Drumheller-Stettler
Cutting public services will unravel and destroy that which keeps our local communities healthy and strong. I have witnessed the cuts in Education, to teacher aides who help those children who need the extra help just to keep up. The fact that these children do not receive the extra help they need, demoralizes the entire staff, and is so unfair to those needy children who "fall through the cracks" because there just isn't enough time in the day for the regular classroom teacher to get to all of them. Study after study has proven that a strong public service and investment in public infrastructure is the best way to keep our businesses competitive and our local communities thriving. There is no reason to cut! Alberta is still in better financial shape than almost any other jurisdiction in North America. We call on Premier Stelmach to invest, not cut our public services like public health care and education. Cuts are just ideological, mean-spirited, short-sighted and will further hurt the most vulnerable. The answer is to keep our public services strong, which in turn, will strengthen our economy.
