A letter written to Ms. Rachel Notley, Edmonton-Strathcona
Good Day Ms. Notley, My daughter attends McKernan Public School and is in her first year of junior high. While I support the inclusive nature of public education I also feel much valuable education is being robbed by the behavioural issues many students bring to school. My daughters home room teacher was spat on by a student and another was taken out by security officers for calling a teacher a f*$#ing b*^#@ during class time! The fact that these incidents are are not uncommon (and are often much worse) in schools throughout Edmonton is even more of a concern. As I see it the problems are muli- faceted; How do we support our children's educations? How do we support teachers? How do we support children and families who are not thriving? When I think of the answers they all fall back to continued support for public services NOT short sighted cut backs! Students who want to learn deserve a safe environment to learn in. Teachers who want to teach deserve the same and parents that are struggling need support. Please continue to support and protect our public services.
