Read Letter - Education Matters

A letter written to Ms. Alana DeLong, Calgary-Bow
Dear MS. DeLong, As a parent and educator I am concerned. Upcoming cutbacks will have detrimental long term repercussions. Education has moved in a positive direction and cutbacks would spiral us in the wrong backwards. Educational change is difficult and if we lose funding for innovative changes, class size initiatives etc. that have moved us forward, our society will suffer. Unfortunately, many jail inmates were once students who fell through the cracks. What I mean by fell through the cracks, is, that they were not provided with a quality of education and did not succeed. Many continued on an unsuccessful path. Misappropriation of educational funding would be like trying to lose a lot of excess weight, approximately a 5% success rate. Rather, wouldn't it be wiser to maintain and develop what we have worked so hard to establish. Research is very clear, quality education makes a difference. Let's not allow unrealized, untapped resources (our children) miss their calling and our future development.
