Read Letter - Cuts to Public Services
By Isabelle Emery
Written Jan. 20, 2010
A letter written to Mr. Harry B. Chase, Calgary-Varsity
Dear Mr. Chase, We are members of Join Together Alberta and we urge you to use your position as a member of the Oppostion to convey to the Alberta Conservative Party our deep disaproval of their propoased cuts to Public Services. In particular we oppose cuts to Education and Healthcare. A short sighted approach will only cost the taxpayers more in the long run. It is only by providing high quality education to our young people that we are able to ensure that there will be plenty of well-paid taxpayers in the future. Without good health, what good is the little bit of money we will save in the short term? Putting the people's health at risk by cutting health care funding only increases the number of people who are forced to join the ranks of the unemployed and increases the number of people who are likley to claim for long-term disability calims. Funding for public services more than pays for itself! Despite a temporary drop in revenues, Alberta is still in a position to generate adequate funds to cover existing and future expenditures. Stop acting as if you can run a province as if it was a child's piggy bank! Signed Don and Isabelle Emery
