Read Letter - 2011 Baby Boomers Become Seniors
By Dena Greanya
Written Jun. 22, 2010
A letter written to Mr. Rob Anderson, Airdrie-Chestermere
In 2011 our Baby Boomers are becoming Seniors. We already have a crisis looming with our Senior Population and their Health Care. Aging in the right place is all fine until someone falls and breaks a hip, and is not discovered for hours or days. I work with Seniors and their families every day.I am a Lodge Manager.Daily I see the lack of Care many of our Seniors receive. The cuts to Health Care, have made a huge inpact on many of their lives. Waitlists are long for Dr. Appointments, Specialist appointments are even longer. Many have to travel out of town, for these appointments, which is very hard on them. Waitlists are also long to get into Seniors' Housing, Lodges, DAl's, and Long Term Care, (if it is available). Some of these facilities are very costly, especially for low income Seniors. Lodges are looking after people who should be in Long Term Care. If the Government Invested in Long Term Care, Disignated Assisted Living, Lodges and Hospitals, this would create both Short and Long Term Employment in the Province. It's time to look after our Seniors now. They are the reason why we, as Albertans, enjoy the prosperity, and peace we do.
